Vandalism was the likely cause of widespread disruption affecting passengers in and out of Birmingham today, Network Rail said (Mon 11 April). Pictures released by Network Rail show apparent attempts to burn and cut cables powering signals at Proof House junction, south of Birmingham New Street station. The resulting signal failure caused major disruption to thousands of people’s journeys.

Rugby fans will be able to catch the train to and from Coventry Arena for Wasps games against Harlequins and Leicester Tigers. Rugby special charter trains will run between Coventry and Nuneaton, calling at Coventry Arena on Sunday 28 February and Saturday 12 March. The shuttle service will provide an extra 1,000 seats on the route before and after each game.

The West Coast main line fully reopened at Leighton Buzzard at 0400 hours today (5 February) after engineers successfully repaired a bank slip in six days.
