London Midland Boosts Trains for Capital Weekend of Sport

London Midland is boosting its train services to help marathon goers and football fans this Sunday (24 April). The train operator will be putting on extra carriages on its first trains to the capital on Sunday morning for the London Marathon. Later in the day London Midland will be adding extra stops at Wembley Central for fans travelling to the Crystal Palace v Watford FA Cup semi-final.

Vandalism suspected cause rail disruption at Birmingham New Street

Vandalism was the likely cause of widespread disruption affecting passengers in and out of Birmingham today, Network Rail said (Mon 11 April). Pictures released by Network Rail show apparent attempts to burn and cut cables powering signals at Proof House junction, south of Birmingham New Street station. The resulting signal failure caused major disruption to thousands of people’s journeys.

Network Rail has re-opened the line between Birmingham New St and Birmingham International. Trains are starting to run on the route and a full service is expected to be restored by mid-afternoon. Local and long distance services through Birmingham New St have been disrupted all morning following the loss of power to signalling equipment south of the station.

London Midland has started to run some services to and from Northampton following this morning’s flooding. However the train company says there will be disruption for the rest of the day between Rugby and Euston. As so many trains are now out of position some services in tomorrow’s peak may have fewer carriages than normal.

Rugby fans will be able to catch the train to and from Coventry Arena for Wasps games against Harlequins and Leicester Tigers. Rugby special charter trains will run between Coventry and Nuneaton, calling at Coventry Arena on Sunday 28 February and Saturday 12 March. The shuttle service will provide an extra 1,000 seats on the route before and after each game.

Network Rail reopens the railway at Leighton Buzzard six days after bank slip

The West Coast main line fully reopened at Leighton Buzzard at 0400 hours today (5 February) after engineers successfully repaired a bank slip in six days. Trains can now run on all four tracks through the Leighton Buzzard area and the embankment has not just been repaired but also future-proofed to minimise the chances of further slips.

London Midland has welcomed the findings of the latest National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) . The NRPS is carried out by Transport Focus, the independent transport watchdog. The latest survey shows an overall year-on-year improvement for London Midland customer satisfaction. London Midland achieved a score of 86% (above the national average of 83%).
